in a dream. He was driving us in our car together and talking with me but I couldn't hear what he was saying. It was so clear, like he was really there -- and he was -- and I've had dreams like this before -- so clear. And I started crying hard. He stopped the car and reached to hold me, but I jolted awake. I could feel him laying beside me -- like he was there, holding me, trying to talk to me, but I still couldn't hear. I don't know how to feel about this, because it's been some time since he passed, and I had a date this week. I'm confused, I miss James, I want to read something about all this, and I want to see James, but I miss being with someone. At the same time, I think he even helped me meet this guy. Any advice? Signed, Sleepless Dreamer.
Dear Sleepless Dreamer: Regarding your dreams, what you are experiencing with the clarity you describe is called "lucid dreaming." Basically, we all have the opportunity to interact with the guides and teachers and loved ones that would come to you, which is particularly likely in the times you are not looking for it, not asking too hard about it, and simply drifting off or drifting awake. The other time you'll find it most likely is the early morning hours, the dream time nearest your waking up, after you've spent the middle of the night processing daily stuff and have room to make contact. That's exactly when you have been conscious of you and James seeing each other.
The lovely, beautiful, wonderful, eternal aspect of all of this is much more subtle. To help you stay within your dreams, simply keep in mind hat Spirit is very, very, gentle. In our being, we are energy, the divine spark or breath, and we need no effort at all to travel the universe or time. So imagine what a jolt it is when our dearest love has made his transition, is fully Spirit, and we see him -- we can't help but be jolted in our dream, because it's so present! And hey, this IS life after death, our very nature, we're talking about -- this is big! In other words, the jolt to our mental-body of this proof is enough to jolt us out of our spirit-body, and poof, we pop out of the dream.
What to do? Remind yourself from time to time that spending time with James is already the most natural thing in the world for you, SleeplessDreamer. Remember, too, that your mental-body believes that you have to use your vocal chords to speak, and Spirit does not need them. Thoughts are communicated instantly -- just find his eyes and you will know what he's saying. You will know.
In general, going to bed with a light heart will lend greater and greater clarity to your dreams. If something is disturbing to you before bedtime, do what you can to let it go. Dream time is sacred space, and we welcome Spirit there that love us, would help us, and guide us throughout our lives.
Have you found a book that feels comfortable to you in regard to spiritual things -- things that appeal to you that you and James may have spoken about before, or you and a friend have discussed? Because in that book or tape or whatever it is, you will find further understanding about YOUR spiritual nature. Every answer to any question you will ever have about Spirit is already inside you, yet we need help in remembering those answers. When you pick up the book that's right for you, you'll know. There is the saying of course "seek and you shall find." But the original text of that saying is "seek and you shall find. When you find, you will be disturbed, and after you are disturbed, you will be astonished... and rule over all." (meaning over your journey)
Breathe deep. You will find James as often as you need him, and it sounds like he's there for you as you start to take a step to validate your continuing life, and have a date. And of course he would help you find a person to share life to the absolute fullest! Why? Because he loves you.
Let me know how it's going, and blessings always,
Brett
